DARDEN PURCELL is a well respected educator and vocal coach. Dr. Purcell is the Director of Jazz Studies, Jazz Voice instructor and Director of the Mason Jazz Vocal Ensemble at George Mason University.

Dr. Purcell's vocal ensembles have performed in Jazz festivals and conferences throughout the nation, including the Kansas City Jazz Alliance Festival, New York Voices Jazz Festival (Chicago), Western Michigan Gold Company Jazz Vocal Invitational (Kalamazoo, MI), Jazz Education Network (JEN) conference (Louisville, KY) and JENerations Jazz Festival (New Orleans, LA).

The Mason Jazz Vocal Ensemble has been invited as a featured student group at the JEN conference to be held January 3-6th, 2018 in Dallas TX!

She has served as faculty on camps nationwide, including W.O. Smith Music Camp (Nashville, 2006 - 2011), Illinois Summer Youth Music (Champaign, IL, 2009, 2011) Mason Summer Jazz Workshop (2012 - 2014), MAT Camp (Wyoming, 2015) and National Jazz Workshop (2015 - 2017).

Darden's students have won "Outstanding Soloist" and "Outstanding Musicianship" awards at collegiate festivals as well as Downbeat Student Music Awards. Spring 2016, the Mason Jazz Vocal Ensemble was awarded "Outstanding Ensemble" at the Kansas City Jazz Alliance Festival. Spring 2017, Darden had the honor of serving as an adjudicator (with Connaitre Miller and LaTonya Wren) for the Ella Fitzgerald Vocal Jazz Competition hosted by Blues Alley.

She provides private instruction for ages (high school and up) and is available for master classes and vocal workshops.
